Prelude – Jackie Jones

Call to Worship – Rev. Jackie Yates

L: Open your hearts to God’s loving mercy.
P: Lord, come into our hearts this day.
L: Having received God’s mercy, bring that love to others.
P: Lord, be with us as we reach out to others in compassion.
L: Feel your spirits filled with the goodness of God.
P: Lord, we thank you for the many blessings which you pour into our lives. AMEN.

Invocation – Cliff Stockton

Lord, who lifts us up, reside in our hearts today. Help us to listen closely for your word to us. Remind us that you are always with us, throughout all of our lives. Give us confidence in your presence, so that we may go into your world ready to witness to your love through our works and our deeds, for we pray these things in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Scripture: Valarie Houston – 1st Timothy 6:11:16

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

By the humility and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am “timid” when face to face with you, but “bold” toward you when away! I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ…
